The “My Prerogative” singer speaks candidly about what so many have implied or outright suggested—getting the “I Will Always Love You” singer addicted to drugs.
“No, that’s not true. I didn’t get high before I met Whitney.” He adds, “No, I– I — I smoked weed, I drank the beer, but no, I wasn’t the one that got Whitney on drugs at all,” insisting the superstar was using drugs “way, way before” the two met.
The father of he and Houston’s only child, Bobbi Kristina, also takes issue with outsiders pegging him as a bad influence.
“It makes me feel terrible. But you know, I know differently. I think if anyone ever knew us, if anybody ever spent time around us instead of time lookin’ through the bubble, they would know how we felt about each other. They would know how happy we were together.”
Matt Lauer of the Today Show asked Brown, who insists he’s narcotic free today, how he felt knowing “The Bodyguard” actress was using and that cocaine was found near her body.
“I was hurt. I was hurt … because, you know, me being off of narcotics for the last seven years — I felt that she was, you know, I didn’t know she was struggling with it still. But at the same time, you know — listen, it’s a hard fight. It’s a hard fight to, you know, maintain sobriety that way.”
The New Edition member also recalled the last time he saw Whitney who appeared to be in a good place a week prior to her shocking death.
“She had this glow about her that was just incredible,’ he says. ‘I’m saying to myself, ‘She must be doing really well,’ because she looked really well. She looked like she was in a good place.”
Bobby and Whitney married in 1993 and divorced after 15 years together.
Hopefully now the press can ease up on Bobby.
